Daysome accounts and plans

Daysome is free on the device it's on, and stays that way. A household plan connects the device to daysome.org, so the family and carers can see and change the day from wherever they are. We call that a household. This page explains who needs an account, who owns a plan, and how it all works when the household has a mix of iPads, Android tablets, Amazon Fire tablets and phones.

Do I need an account?

Not to use the app. Everything on one device works with no account and no internet connection, including changing the day from the settings behind the PIN.

You only need an account on daysome.org to connect a device to a household, or to see and change a household's day from your own phone or computer. The device itself never signs in: it shows a code, and somebody with an account enters it.

Households, members and devices

A household is the person's day as daysome.org holds it, with everyone and everything connected to it.

  • Members are the people looking after the day. Each has their own daysome.org sign-in. The person who connects the first device becomes the household's owner, and can invite others and remove them again. There's no limit on members.
  • Devices are the tablets and phones showing the day. A household plan covers up to three. Removing a person never touches a device, and removing a device never touches the people.

One person can be a member of several households, with one sign-in.

Carers don't need the app

Family and carers see and change the day at daysome.org, in the browser on their own phone or computer. There's nothing to install.

If somebody does install Daysome on their own phone and connect it, it becomes one of the household's devices and shows the person's day, like the tablet does. That's fine if it's what you want, but it uses one of the household's three places.

Connecting a device

  1. On the device, open the settings (tap five times in the top-right corner within five seconds, then enter the PIN) and choose Connect this device. It shows a six-character code.
  2. On your phone or computer, sign in at daysome.org, go to Get started and enter the code.
  3. Within a minute the device says it's connected, and the day you'd already set up on it appears on the website.

A new household starts with a free 30-day trial of the household plan. Nothing is charged unless somebody makes a purchase.

Disconnecting, and connecting again

Disconnecting keeps the day on the device exactly as it is. It stops following the household and frees its place, so the household can connect another device instead.

The device remembers which household it was in. When you connect it again, it offers to go back there, and daysome.org checks before it goes anywhere else:

  • If you're signed in as a member of that household, you can reconnect it in one step, or start a new household on purpose.
  • If you're signed in as somebody else, we'll tell you the device belongs to a household you're not in. Sign in as one of its members to reconnect it, or start a new household on purpose.

That check matters if you have more than one sign-in. It stops a device quietly ending up in a new, empty household with the plan left behind.

Who owns the plan?

The household does. Not the person who paid, and not the device it was bought on. That's deliberate: the person being looked after doesn't change, but the people looking after them often do.

  • If a carer leaves the household, the plan stays.
  • If a family member takes over, they don't need to buy it again.
  • If you connect a device to a different household, or join another household yourself, the purchase doesn't come with you. It stays with the household it was bought for.

Buying a plan

You buy the household plan in the app, on a connected device, in the settings under Connect this device. There are two:

  • Yearly, which renews each year until it's cancelled.
  • A one-time payment, with nothing more to pay.

Payment goes through the store the app came from: the App Store on an iPad or iPhone, Google Play on most Android devices, and the Amazon Appstore on a Fire tablet. The price is shown before you confirm, in that store's own payment screen.

Mixing iPads, Android, Fire tablets and phones

The plan belongs to the household, so it covers every connected device, whatever it is and whichever store it came from. A plan bought on an iPad in the kitchen also covers a Fire tablet in the bedroom and an Android phone, as long as all three are connected to the same household. You don't need to buy it again, or restore anything, on the other devices.

Restore a purchase is for a different job: putting a plan back after the app has been reinstalled, or on a replacement device. It only works within the same store and the same store account that bought it, so an App Store purchase can be restored on another Apple device signed in to the same Apple Account, but not on a Fire tablet. On a Fire tablet you don't need it: connect the Fire to the household and the plan is already there.

Looking after more than one household

Each store lets one store account buy the plan once. So if you look after two people in two households, a second purchase from the same Apple Account, Google account or Amazon account won't go through: the store treats it as already bought, and the purchase stays with the first household.

For the second household, the plan needs buying from a different store account, for example by another family member. If that doesn't work for your family, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We'd like to hear how often this comes up.

Changing or cancelling the yearly plan

The yearly plan is managed in the store account that bought it, not on daysome.org:

  • App Store: on the iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
  • Google Play: in the Play Store app, tap your profile picture, then Payments & subscriptions, then Subscriptions.
  • Amazon Appstore: on amazon.co.uk, go to Your Account, then Memberships & Subscriptions.

Refunds are handled by the same store, under its own rules.

When a trial or plan ends

Nothing changes on the person's screen. Every connected device keeps showing the day, keeps working and stays in step with the others, and you can still change the day from any device's own settings. What stops is changing the day from daysome.org: members can still see it there, but not edit it. Choose a plan and editing comes back, with nothing lost.

Nothing about plans, payments or accounts ever appears on the person's own screen.

Leaving, and deleting your data

Any member can leave a household from the Members page on daysome.org. The owner can remove members and devices there too. To delete a household and everything daysome.org holds about it, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. from the address on the owner's account.

The terms of use cover the plan in more detail, and the privacy policy says what a connected household stores and where.
